Hi guys, im wondering if you could help me. I have installed and re-installed but the game does not start up at all.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit, I7 core, nvidia GTX 450 and 8 GB ram. the game 'appears to start as the mouse flickers and has the load icon but just stays on desktop.
I have tried starting the PC with services turned off and still havn't been able to get it working. Also tried changing the compatibility and nothing. Checked the task manager too, it says is in process but nothing happens.
atm i have no other ideas on how to get this game working and hope you guys manage to do so!!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Pr0Gr3Zz
P.S I have rise of nations installed on this PC and that works perfectly! (thought i might mention that)

First: Is the game patched?
If not, then links for manually patching the game can be found here: Manually patching RoL
Remember to read the headerpost (where the links are) and the readme in the downloads.
Other things to try:
Have you tried 'Run as administrator'. The checkbox for it is at the bottom of the same tab as the one where you select Compatibility Mode.
Try start the game. When nothing seems to happen, just leave your computer like this without using it for up to 2 hours.

The one thing i dont understand is why it doesnt work after already working? i remember trying to get the patch through the main servers and had some sort of problem with it. it didnt work then, so i uninstalled it. i tried installing it a week or so ago and nothing, and also tried to get it working yesterday and tnothing.
I've done the patch, and i already tried the opening as administrator but im still waiting for it to open :/ i'm going to have to try what you suggested... wait for 2 hours xD
I'll give you a heads up if it does start up in a couple of hours or not.

Try uninstall the game, then by checking in Windows Explorer make sure the games mainfolder including contents is deleted.
Install the game again and patch it manually. There's a link in my former post for manually patching the game. Remember to read the header post and the readme that comes with the patches.

Recently upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I never played Caesar IV but would like to get into it. I've tried the demo but I get a crash to the desktop before the map can be loaded. I've tried running in both the Vista and XP compatibility modes with no avail.
Does anyone have this successfully working with Vista/Windows 7 64-bit?

Welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure about Windows 7. This post in the technical forum may be of interest. If that doesn't help, I suggest you post in the technical forum. If anyone can help with this, it is Angel PCDania.

Looks like there are people who can get C4 to work properly in Win7. Do ask around the tech forum and get your problem fixed.
Hi Kach, just dropping by my former Heaven to take a look. Hope everything's been going great for you these past couple of years. I just started university in August and since then, I haven't been able to get a life at all, phew.

Hi DX. Sounds like your time at university will be a lot tougher that mine was. There was a lot less pressure 40 years ago.
I think nmnutz6383 may have solved his/her problem.

Hey, I am running Ceasar IV on win 7 64 bit, and its running very well. I also had problems with the demo, but with the full game I have only had a couple of crashes, and that is after playing for a while. I am running on the 1.1 patch if I reccall correctly btw.

Welcome to the forums Diavolone.
Thanks for the information. That is good news.
What about version 1.2? It is worth installing because it fixes a few problems and also allows you to load saves made with other versions of the game.

Hi, I'm considering upgrading to 7 as well. I'm trying to play C4 on vista, but it crashes every time I play it, so it's stopped being fun...

Just installed Caeser IV on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. No problems. It was a digital download from D2D but I think other than that it's the same thing.
I mut say it's very good looking. The camera is awkward it doesn't really want to swing over the edge of the map. Which is slightly annoying with small maps.
I have a new computer, i7 860, 4 gigs Ram and a ATI 5870 GFX card. I didn't install Dx9.0c from the Caeser installation.

Sounds good.
Is your game version 1.2? You can see from the top right hand corner of the main menu. Version 1.2 alows you to load saved games from other language versions. It fixed quite a few glitches too.
I hope you enjoy it!

It was 1.1
I have now updated it to version 1.2, thanks. I found a patch on D2D. Looks like the normal patches wouldn't work had to use the patch for the digital distribution.

I have waited for two years to get a machine that was capable of running C4 and now I have one.
I am running on windows 7 and so far I have had no trouble running C4 it is a fabulous game. But you must install DX9 in order for it to run on that platform. So far it is running very well I am about halfway through I think and am satisfied with it

Yes, you do need a decent machine. It is not quite the same game when you have the video settings at 'best performance'.
