The coffee machine switches off suddenly.The switch-off time programmed using the timer has been reached.
■ If required, you can select a new switch-off time (see 'Settings - Timer').
The plug is not inserted in the socket correctly.
■ Insert the plug into the socket correctly.
The coffee machine is switched on. The lighting switches off suddenly.The machine will switch itself off automatically after approximately 7 minutes if it is not being used.

■ Fill the water container to the descaling symbol 2 and restart the descaling programme.
'Fill and replace the water container' appears after switching on even though the container is filled and fitted in the machine. The appliance does not rinse.The coffee machine needs descaling.
■ Switch the machine off with the On/Off (!) sensor. Wait approx. 1 hour.
■ Then switch the machine on again. As soon as 'Heating-up phase' appears in the display, touch Q and select 'Descale the appliance'.
■ Descale the coffee machine.
Neither milk nor milk froth comes out of the central spout.The milk pipework is blocked.
■ Clean the central spout, taking particular care to clean the cappuccinatore and milk pipes carefully with the cleaning brush.
'Empty the drip tray' appears in the display, even though the drip tray is empty.The drip tray is not positioned correctly in the machine.
■ Push the drip tray in as far as it will go.
■ Make sure the holder for the drip tray cover is correctly located on the drip tray.
Drink preparation has been cancelled.If the water container becomes empty while a drink is being made, the message 'Water container empty. Continue? Yes / No' will appear in the display after the water container has been refilled and put back in the machine. If you do not confirm this message with 'Yes' within 5 minutes, preparation will be cancelled.
The coffee machine does not rinse itself when turned on.This is not a fault. If the coffee machine still has an operating temperature higher than 60°C , rinsing will not take place.
The display lights up but the coffee machine does not heat up and no drinks are made.The demo setting of the coffee machine for showrooms or dealers has been activated.
The coffee machine cannot be turned off with the On/Off sensor d).■ Deactivate the demo mode (see 'Settings - Demo mode').
'Fill the bean container' appears in the display even though the bean container is full.This is not a fault.
■ Confirm the message with OK.
Drink dispensing starts even though a sensor has not been touched.Condensate may have built up on the control panel and accidentally started the process.
■ Wipe any condensate off with a soft cloth.
Milk is dripping or running out of the central spout even though no milk is being dispensed.The level of milk in the milk flask is higher than the central spout.
■ Push the central spout up as far as it will go.
The descaling programme was started by mistake.The descaling programme cannot be stopped once the OK sensor has been touched. Descaling must be continued through to completion. This is a safety precaution to make sure the machine is descaled correctly.
Loud noises are heard during the descaling programme.This is not a fault. These noises occur when water is flushed through the machine at a high pressure.
The heating-up time is getting longer, the amount of water being dispensed is incorrect and the coffee machine is not performing properly.The coffee machine needs descaling.

- Is the machine programmed to switch off after a programmed time?- The machine goes into standby mode when not used for a programmed time. See 'Settings Switch off after'.
- Is the machine plugged in?- Plug in the machine.
The lighting suddenly turns off.
The lighting turns off automatically if the machine has not been used for 15 minutes.
The coffee system does not turn on, even though the 'Turn on at' setting has been activated.
- The system lock has been activated.- Deactivate the system lock, see 'Settings - System lock'.
- The machine was not used 3 times in a row after the automatic turn on.- Turn on the appliance manually and use as normal.
The display is hard to read.
Adjust the contrast and/or brightness of the display, see 'Settings - Display'.
The door will not open or close.
The steam valve is not in the correct position.Push the steam valve down, then pull it upwards as far as it will go.
The time of day needs to be reset.
The machine was unplugged or a power failure occurred.Reset the time of day, see ’Settings - Time of day'.
The preset times for turning on or off automatically are saved and do not need to be reset.
No beverage is prepared although there are coffee capsules in the carousel and there is enough water in the water tank.
- The water tank is not sitting properly in the appliance.- Reseat the water tank.
- A coffee capsule is jammed in the carousel.- Open the appliance door.
- Pull the carousel tray out, lift out the capsule carousel and make sure all capsules can move easily.
- Reinsert the carousel in the tray and push it all the way in.
- Close the door.
No hot water or steam is dispensed from the steam valve.
- The water tank is not sitting properly in the appliance.- Reseat the water tank.
- The steam valve is blocked.- Open the appliance door.
- Press the steam lever down and pull off the rubber sleeve.
- Using the small end of the provided tool unscrew the top of the steam valve counterclockwise.
- Clean the tip and screw it on again.
Steam and coffee / espresso cannot be prepared simultaneously.
The steam heating system is turned off.If the steam system is turned off steam and coffee cannot be dispensed at the same time. To turn the steam system on, see 'Settings - Steam system'.
Although the steam heating system is turned off, it is still possible to simultaneously prepare espresso / coffee and steam.
Steam can be dispensed as long as the steam heating system is warm.Once cooled the system will no longer dispense steam.
The steam smells like rubber.
The rubber odor will wear off with time and usage.
The cappuccinatore does not dispense milk froth.
- The spout turned to the side so that froth can only be prepared in the cappuccinatore.- Turn the spout to the cup.
- The valve and the froth dispenser of the cappuccinatore are not properly inserted in the lid.- See 'Cleaning and care'.
- Are any single parts of the cappuccinatore clogged?- Clean the cappuccinatore.
The coffee dispensing is interrupted.
If a double espresso / coffee was selected the machine uses two coffee capsules.Dispensing is interrupted when the carousel chambers are empty. Refill coffee capsules.
The appliance does not rinse when turned on.
If the appliance is at a temperature of 140°F (60°C) or above, the rinse feature will not work.
The drip tray is empty but there is still a repeated prompt to empty it.
- The contacts are wet and or dirty.- Check the drip tray contacts.
- Is the drip tray inserted properly?- Reinsert the drip tray.
- Using the main switch turn the appliance off the on again.
If the message persists contact Miele Technical Service Dept.
The dispensed coffee has ground coffee in it.
The capsule plate is soiled.Clean the capsule plate, see 'Cleaning and Care'.
The water flow stopped while the quantity was being programmed.
- If the maximum water amount is reached, the water dispensing stops automatically. The maximum water amount is saved.- Refill the water tank and reset the serving size.
- There was not enough water in the tank. The dispensed water amount will not be saved.
The preparing time and amount of coffee is very different.
Depending on coffee type the grind level will differ between coarse and fine. Preparing time and amount will vary.
The espresso / coffee is not hot enough.
- Check if the capsule plate is clogged.- Clean the capsule plate.
- Pre-warm the cup.
The coffee is too weak.
- Check the water amount saved in the memory per coffee.- Adjust if necessary.
- After 15,000 cups of coffee the perforator needs to be replaced.- See 'Cleaning and care - Maintenance'.
There is water in the waste container.
This is not a fault. This is residual water from the brewing and rinsing processes.
There is 'coffee water' in the waste container.
The capsule plate is not inserted correctly.Reinsert the capsule plate.
The descaling process was started accidently.
The descaling process cannot be stopped once the OK button has been pressed. The process now needs to be completed as a safety measure. Descaling is important to increase the life of the machine and to ensure the best possible results. See, 'Descaling'.
The heat-up time has gotten longer, the water flow amount is incorrect and the machine is not performing properly.
The machine needs to be descaled. See, 'Descaling before prompted'.

The display remains dark when the coffee system is turned on us- ing the On / Off «power» but- ton.The On / Off «power» button was not touched for long enough.
■ Tap the On / Off «power» button and keep it pressed for at least 3 seconds.
The plug is not properly plugged into the electrical outlet.
■ Insert the plug into the electrical outlet.
The fuse has tripped because the coffee system, volt- age or another appliance is defective.
■ Reinsert the plug..
■ Contact a qualified electrician or Miele Service for assistance.
The lighting remains off after the coffee system has been turned on.The lighting has been turned off.
■ Turn the lighting on (see 'Settings - Lighting').
The lamp is defective.
■ Contact Miele Service.
The coffee system turns off suddenly.The switch-off time programmed using the timer has been reached.
■ If required, you can select a new switch-off time (see 'Settings - Timer').
The plug is not properly plugged into the electrical outlet.
■ Insert the plug into the electrical outlet.
The coffee system is turned on. The lighting turns off suddenly.This is not a fault. The lighting turns off approximate- ly 10 minutes after the coffee system was last used.
The sensors do not re- act to touch. The appliance cannot be operated.There is an internal fault.
■ Open the appliance door.
The process currently running will be stopped.
■ Disconnect the electrical supply by switching off at the wall outlet and unplugging, or tripping the breaker.
The coffee system does not switch itself on, al- though the timer setting Turn on at has been activated.The system lock feature has been activated.
■ You need to deactivate the system lock (see 'Set- tings - System lock').
A day of the week has not been selected.
■ Check the timer settings and change them if required (see 'Settings - Timer').
The machine was not used after being switched on automatically three times in succession.
■ Switch the machine on and dispense a drink.
The display is hard to see or not legible.The display brightness has been set too low.
Fill and replace the water container appears after switching on even though the container is filled and fitted in the machine. The appliance does not rinse.The coffee system needs to be descaled.
■ Turn the coffee system off with the On / Off «power» button. Wait approx. 1 hour.
■ Switch on the machine again. As soon as Preheat- ing appears, tap Maintenance at the bottom right and then select Descale.
■ Descale the coffee system. You may need to re- peat the descaling process.
